The incident passed off on March 11 when 37-year-old Ramakant Dwivedi, one of many passengers on a London-Mumbai flight, used the washroom to smoke and the crew members stopped him. Based on airline guidelines, smoking isn’t permitted on flight.

When Dwivedi was within the washroom, the alarm went off and crew members ran in direction of the lavatory. Dwivedi was arrested and offered earlier than the Justice of the Peace after an FIR was registered beneath the IPC part pertaining to rash or negligent behaviour endangering private security of others, and sections 22 (refuse to comply with a lawful instruction given by the pilot-in-command), 23 (assault and different acts endangering security or jeopardising good order and self-discipline) and 25 (for smoking) of the Plane Act, 1937.

After a chargesheet was filed, he received bail on a surety of Rs 25,000. However contemplating he didn’t have sufficient money, the courtroom had requested him to be despatched to judicial custody. He was lodged in Arthur Highway jail.

“His household can be fulfilling the bail formalities quickly and paying Rs 25,000 money, following which he can be launched from jail,” stated a senior officer from Mumbai Police.

Police had filed a 20-page chargesheet on this case in 48 hours as a result of the accused is a US citizen.
